Totton is a town in Hampshire known as the 'biggest village in England'. It is part of the borough of Test Valley lying on the River Meon, which flows into Southampton Water at Totton Mouth. Located on Southampton and Winchester's edge, Totton offers easy access to the M3 and M27 motorways and is just 20 minutes from Southampton Airport. In addition, it has its railway station, which links it to London Waterloo in just over an hour.
Rich in history and heritage, Totton was originally a collection of small villages (South Stoneham, North Stoneham, Sholing) that grew into one large town with the development of the docks during the 19th century. However, the town has always been closely linked to Southampton; in fact, many people still refer to it as 'Southampton's other side'.
Totton was once an important port for trading with the Americas and today still has strong maritime links. Its position at the heart of two major cities makes it a thriving commercial centre with many amenities, including shops, markets, restaurants and bars. The town also boasts a wide range of community projects, including a library, youth clubs and sports facilities.
The town has a vibrant cultural scene with events throughout the year, including festivals such as The Festival of Lights and The Great British Food Festival. You can also enjoy regular performances by local drama groups at venues such as The Brookside Theatre or The Barnfield Theatre Trust's theatre complex, which opened in 2016 in Totton's historic Town Hall building on High Street South.
