Lymington is a beautiful Georgian town, surrounded by three sides of the New Forest National Park of Hampshire and on the coast of the Solent (leading into Lymington River) and on the north shore of the Isle of Wight. With an excellent transport infrastructure connecting Southampton and London, it is also accessible from the M271 via Lymington Town Centre, generally providing easy access to the rest of the country.
Along the coast toward Hurst Spit, there was an almost endless belt of salt works, with the area famous for salt making between the Middle Ages and the 19th century. Lymington when on to benefit from a thriving shipbuilding industry and a well-known association with Thomas Inman, builder of the schooner Alarm. Inman's yacht famously raced the American yacht, America, in 1851. Yachting is, of course, readily available in Lymington, with many sailing experiences on offer.
Lymington has a long history and is steeped in heritage: a small town with a big heart and home to outstanding local businesses and community projects to get involved in. The town's population is approximately 5,000 people, but during the summer months, it can double in size to accommodate the many tourists and holidaymakers flocking to the area to enjoy its sandy beaches, beautiful forest trails, and quaint shops and restaurants.
Much of the town centre is Victorian and Georgian, with narrow cobbled streets in the quay area. There are plenty of restaurants, markets and shops to choose from and much water fun to be had by the seaside. There are plenty of things to do in Lymington with a refreshing combination of the outdoors and exploring the town's historic buildings.
