St Albans
Seen as one of the most affluent areas orbiting London, St. Albans is situated in the commuter belt north of London. The City of St. Albans sits in the county of Hertfordshire and is steeped in historical significance.
It was named after the first ever British saint, Alban and host to the spectacular cathedral, locally referred to as "the abbey". The city became a popular spot for religious pilgrimage retracing the life and death of Saint Alban on the way.
This city is desirable for many reasons, not to mention its ease of access. St. Alban's mainline station is on the Midland Main Line, which runs between London St Pancras International and Sheffield. With direct services to Gatwick Airport, Luton Airport, and Brighton, there is plenty of accessibility in and out of the city by road and rail.
Popular with London commuters, St. Alban's has been named one of the most popular places in the UK to raise a family. This affluent area boasts stunning natural beauty and scenic walks; Heartwood Forest is a firm favourite with casual strollers, dog walkers and runners. Doused in historical reference, a horse path and a children's playground, you would be hard pushed to find a nicer place to take the family on a Sunday afternoon.
Within 10 minutes’ walk from the mainline station, the clock tower can be found in the town centre. Completed in 1405, the clocktower is the country's only surviving belfry of medieval origin. At 600 years old, it hosts many of the town's main events, such as food festivals, open days, and Christmas celebrations. If you feel particularly brave or energetic, you can climb to the top of the clock tower via the narrow and steep 93 steps. The high street is lined with cafes, restaurants, and shops with plenty of lively daily activities. Visitors and residents flock to the ever-popular shopping centres, Christopher's Place and The Malting, for a little retail therapy with many brand-named shops and eateries. With all these timeless favourites, it's hard to find a reason not to set up a home here.
